Ra Sharma

Project Finance, Engineering, Investment Banking

Ra has over 25 years experience in international finance and infrastructure engineering. He qualified as an infrastructure design engineer before working in global capital markets, project finance investment management, financial regulation and now works on climate change mitigation. Ra joined HSC in 2007.

  • In 1981 he joined Halcrow working in the design and construction of utilities and highways infrastructure projects in Asia, Africa and Europe.
  • In 1988 he joined the fixed-income department of Bear Stearns in London before becoming a managing director of high yield and mortgage derivative products moving to Tokyo in 1990, and then to Hong Kong in 1994.
  • He joined ING in Hong Kong in 1995 as head of debt and derivative sales for the Asia Pacific region, working on domestic and international emerging market financial products including loans, derivatives, NDFs and public bond issues.
  • In 1997 he joined Deutsche Bank in London and worked in the growing area of exotic credit derivatives.
  • In 2001 he joined BNP Paribas as global head of the structured credit syndicate and secondary trading.
  • In 2010 he became CEO Délégué at Rivage in Paris, which focused on project loan investment management.
  • Between 2013 and 2016 he was a senior technical advisor at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulatory Authority.
  • Ra is now a consultant on climate change policy

Ra holds an MBA from City University, an MA from Cambridge University where he read the Engineering Tripos, an MSc in Environmental Policy and an MSc in Environmental Sciences, both from UCL. He was awarded the status of Chartered Engineer (CEng) with commendation upon being admitted as a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
