Colin Weightman

Engineering, Project Finance and Securitisation

Colin brings 27 years of experience in the debt capital markets, currency and interest rate risk management and executing complex securitisation transactions. With his scientfic academic, financial and accounting background, he supports the development of the advanced scientific materials business.

He started his career in the audit department at Thomson McLintock (absorbed into KPMG) with his first post-qualification role as senior systems auditor at Redland – a building materials manufacturing company.

  • In 1984 he joined the equity division of Security Pacific Hoare Govett as a financial accountant before moving in 1986 to the equity division’s group treasury department. In 1989 he transferred to the fixed income division joining the derivatives marketing team.
  • In 1992 he joined Kidder Peabody working for Arvi within the structured securities business.
  • In 1993 he joined Abbey National Barings Derivatives in the derivatives marketing team. Post the collapse of Barings, he transferred with the entire derivatives trading and marketing team to ABN Amro London to set up a new derivatives operation. In 1997 he transferred to the ABN Amro securities business focussing on bond repackaging and securitisation.
  • In 1999 he joined the Royal Bank of Scotland’s securitisation team as a structurer with a particular focus on the bank’s own asset securitisations. In 2007 he transferred to the asset management business as a structurer. In 2011 he was transferred to the Non-Core Division managing a diverse portfolio of securitisation-related positions. He left the bank in 2013.

Colin received a BSc in Physics from Durham University in 1978 and an MSc in Astrophysics in 2016 from Queen Mary University of London. He is a former Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a former Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
